The Future Feast

October 6, 2019 Speaker: Paul Sanders Series: The Supper

Topic: The Supper Passage: Revelation 19:9–19:9

The Lord’s Supper is Christ’s blessing to us.

The Lord’s Supper is a unique opportunity for communion with Jesus by faith.

“You do not get any different Christ in the Lord’s Supper than you get in the preaching of the Word; you do not get a better Christ in the Lord’s Supper than in the preaching of the Word; but you may get the same Christ better. Robert Bruce

The Lord’s Supper is a unique opportunity for communion with one another.

The Lord’s Supper calls us to prepare our hearts and minds.

The Lord’s Supper calls us to remember.

The Lord’s Supper points us to a future feast.

1 Corinthians 11:26

"I tell you the truth, I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new in the Kingdom of God" (Mark 14:25).

Revelation 19:9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

Meal One: The feast of the fall (Genesis 3)

Meal Two: The Passover meal (Exodus 12)

Third Meal: The Last Supper (Mt. 26:17–30, Mk. 14:12–26, Lk. 22:7–39 and Jn. 13:1–17:26)

The Lord’s Supper (Gospel accounts & 1 Corinthians 11)

Revelation 19:9

9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”

Fifth meal: The Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19).

“I think we can infer that Christ, even in His highest glory, still wishes us to regard Him as the Sacrifice for sins. He desires to be viewed by us in His character as the Lamb slain from before the foundation of the world. This is a character which He never lays aside and it is as the Lamb that He will manifest Himself in the consummation of all things when His church is perfected!”

Charles Spurgeon

the glory of a King must lie not in the crowns he wears, but in what he does for His subjects. And Christ’s glory is most seen in His sacrifice for sinners.”

17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. Isaiah 25:6

Rev. 19:7-9 - 7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
