Topic: Nehemiah Passage: Nehemiah 7:1–7:73

Nehemiah 6:16

We will not boast in anything but Jesus Christ; our God, His glory is our purpose; not our own.

Nehemiah 7:1-5

The first priority and characteristic of the City of God is the Worship of God (7:1)

The next priority and characteristic of the City of God will be that leaders be designated (7:2)

2 Timothy 2:11-12

The next priority and characteristic of the City of God will be that it is filled with God’s people.

The original leaders (vs. 6-7)

Jews who were laymen (vs. 8-38)

Priests (vs. 39-42)

Levites (vs. 43)

Singers (vs. 44)

Gatekeepers (vs. 45)

Temple servants (vs. 46-56)

Descendants of the servants of Solomon (vs. 57-60)

Those with questionable ancestry (vs. 61-65)

Nehemiah 7:66-68

The next priority and characteristic of the City of God is that the citizens of this City are known and numbered by God.

Rev. 21:9-26

Isaiah 26:1-4

Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God! He, whose Word cannot be broken, Formed thee for His own abode; On the Rock of Ages founded, What can shake thy sure repose? With salvation’s walls surrounded, Thou mayst smile at all thy foes.

Savior, if of Zion’s city, I through grace a member am, Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Thy name; Fading is the worldling’s pleasure, All his boasted pomp and show; Solid joys and lasting treasure None but Zion’s children know.
