Faithful Dating

Topic: Song of Songs Passage: Song of Solomon 1:7–2:4

Faithful attraction considers the heart and character of a person.
Faithful attraction considers if at the center of such heart and character is the Lord Jesus Christ.

After paying the bill, my friend turned to his date and told her, “You ate more than I predicted.”

Halfway through the date, he looks at me and says, “Are you having a good time? Because your face, it looks like you aren’t.”

The guy would not stop putting chopsticks in his mouth pretending to be a walrus.

Before picking me up, he asked if I liked beer and then asked how many I thought I could get in my purse.

My first date was obsessed with trains. He stopped talking when a train went by and would just stare at it.

Song of Solomon 1:7

The first aspect of faithful dating is to cultivate time with one another.

Song of Solomon 1:8

Another aspect of faithful dating is to cultivate time with one another in places that do not give provision for the flesh.

Romans 13:13-14

1 Corinthians 6:18 says, Flee from sexual immorality.
Exercising wisdom in where you spend time is a way to flee sexual immorality.

Wisdom is also to be exercised in how and where one spends time for the testimony of Christ and His church.

“Well, we are committed to purity now so why can we not live together?” For the sake of your own witness and that witness of Christ church. Come out from the world and look different. Unwed cohabitation is common place in our society. You are to be set a part.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24:

Their words cultivate friendship and respect.

Song of Solomon 1:9-11

Ephesians 4:29

Dr. David Jeremiah gives four qualities of the kinds of words we are to speak.
Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. Speak sweet words.

Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Speak soft and kind words.

Proverbs 24:26 - Whoever gives an honest answer kisses the lips.
Speak honest and sensitive words.

Proverbs 12:25 - Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Speak strengthening words.

Song of Solomon 1:15-17

Tend to your garden

Consider Jesus: He has tended well to His garden.

He cultivated time for us that He might have time with us.

He cultivated a loving and kind respect with His Words and deeds.

He says, “Come to me you who are weary and I will give you rest.”

Even when we were His enemies He spoke kind words, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
