Two Covenants, One Salvation - Galatians 4:19-31

January 10, 2016 Speaker: Paul Sanders Series: Grace to You

Topic: Galatians Passage: Galatians 4:19–31

Key text: Galatians 4:19-31

Galatians 4:21

Matthew 3:9

Hebrews 11:11

“This is an allegory. The two women stand for two covenants. The one bearing children into slavery is the covenant that comes from Sinai: that is Hagar. Sinai is a mountain in Arabia and it represents the Jerusalem of today, for she and her children are in slavery. But the heavenly Jerusalem is the free woman; she is our mother… (NEB)

For Scripture says, “Rejoice, O barren woman who never knew a mother’s pangs; for the deserted wife shall have more children than she who lives with the husband.”

Tim Keller said,
“Rule-keeping religion is for the noble, the able, the moral and strong, but the gospel is for anyone. Jesus actually said that the able, moral and strong are in general further away from the kingdom than the moral failures and the spiritually weak.”
